What the website collects
Your email, when you join the pre-launch waitlist. Site usage data (pages visited, device, approximate location) through Google Analytics while you browse.
What the Oak app collects
To work, the app may ask you for: your location (to look up the climate of your cellar and fine-tune storage recommendations — see below), camera access (to photograph a bottle's label, take an optional selfie when you open it, or scan its barcode), your name/email if you choose to sign in with Google, and a device notification token if you allow alerts (so we can let you know when a bottle enters its drinking window). We also store the data you enter yourself: bottles, cellars, tasting notes, and photos you upload. In every case you can keep using the app without granting the permission. Some features stay limited, but never blocked.
Your cellar's location and the climate data behind it
When you set a cellar's location — using your device's GPS or picking a point on the map — we save those coordinates and send them once to NASA POWER, a free public climate database, to estimate how hot your area gets. That estimate shapes the storage-risk level and drinking-window dates we show you, and it's saved with your cellar so we don't need to query it again. This counts as sharing your location with a third party, not just collecting it — NASA POWER only receives the coordinates we send and returns public climate data, nothing else about you. Separately, when you add a new bottle, we read your device's current position only in memory, never stored, to suggest the closest cellar.
Label photos and the AI that identifies your wine
When you photograph a bottle's label, that image is sent to Google Gemini (an external AI provider) to automatically identify the wine: winery, varietal, vintage. This counts as sharing the photo with a third party, not just collecting it. Selfies you take when drinking a bottle are stored as part of your tasting record, but are never sent to any AI provider. Barcodes are read on the spot, with no image ever stored.
What we use it for
Your waitlist email is used only to let you know when the app is available. Inside the app, your data is used to give you the features you asked for: saving your cellar, calculating drinking windows, identifying wines by photo, and notifying you when it's a good time to open a bottle. We don't sell your data or share it with third parties for marketing purposes.
Who we share data with
We use external providers to run the site and the app: Google Firebase (sign-in, database, and notifications), Cloudflare (processing and storing your photos), Google Gemini (identifying wines from label photos), NASA POWER (public climate data for your cellar's location), Resend (waitlist confirmation email), and Google Analytics (site traffic). None of them use your data for their own purposes — each only provides the technical service described above (NASA POWER is a public database that just returns climate data for the coordinates we send).
Cookies
Google Analytics uses cookies to recognize visits and build aggregated site usage statistics. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Deleting your account and data
From your profile inside the app, you can delete your account at any time: this permanently removes your bottles, cellars, photos, and tasting notes. You can also request deletion by emailing support@oakwines.com.ar.
Your rights
You can ask us at any time what data we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. Write to support@oakwines.com.ar. Argentina's Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública (Ley 25.326) is the oversight body if you want to file a complaint.
